SHRIMPS ON THE RIVIERA

Join us for a Shrimps jaunt to Cornwall this Bank Holiday weekend. We’ll be stopping off at eight of Hannah’s favourite Cornish towns. First things first, we’re off to grab a Shrimp Cornish pasty for the journey!

Perranporth Beach has 3 miles of golden sand and sheltered dunes. It’s dog friendly all year round. (Perfect for Lionel McGruff!) Don’t forget to don your Riviera headscarf as Cornwall’s coast is notoriously windy!

 

Take a walk along the golden sand to Ligger’s Point, home to birds, butterflies and tiny sunbathing lizards.

Drop in to the Perranporth town museum which is open all year, the museum features costume displays, a replica of a traditional Cornish kitchen and an exhibition of early surfboards.

 

 

Stock up your Riviera canvas tote-bag with yummy treats and relax in the seafront Promenade Gardens where you can hire a boat to row around the lake.

 

Falmouth is a seafood paradise, roll up your Riviera Blouse sleeves and get stuck into Rick Stein's famous Fish and Chips.

Falmouth Art Gallery is one of the leading galleries in the South West. It has changing displays of some of the best British art with a regular programme of special exhibitions complementing works by Henry Scott-Tuke and Sir Alfred Munnings.

Exotic sub-tropical plants thrive in Falmouth’s mild maritime climate and at Kimberly Park Municipal Garden you can sit amongst the pretty ornamental trees, flower beds and enjoy a picnic.

 

Set high on the rugged North Cornish coast, Tintagel is steeped in myths and has inspired artists like Aubrey Beardsley and writers throughout history who have associated it with the legend of King Arthur.

Discover caves on the beach, one of which was rumoured to be the home of Merlin and Tintagel Castle is said to be the birthplace of King Arthur.

 

 

Visit The Old Sardine Factory with a heritage centre that compliments the museum, focusing on the towns maritime and fishing history.

Looe has a long harbour wall that stretches up to the Victorian bridge and is perfect for catching crabs from.

Looe music festival is fast becoming the last big outdoor music event of the year. Held on the beach and around the town, those who have entertained in the past include Lulu, Jools Holland and Bryan Ferry to name but a few.

A Cornish music festival is the perfect occasion for the Riviera Dress. 

 

 

Take the ferry across the river to the village of Rock, popular with film stars and even royalty. From here there are some great walks along the coast to the spectacular beaches of Daymer Bay and Polzeath.

For all the Poldark fans, some of the cliff scenes moved to the Padstow area. Fans of north Cornwall will recognise Levlizzick, and the spectacular views across the Camel Estuary and Tregirls beach.

 

 

Truro Cathedral dominates the skyline with its impressive gothic towers. From boutiques, bookshops designer interiors to delicatessens, this great little city offers some great shopping. So don't forget your Riviera Bag.

The Helford is one of the most beautiful estuaries in Cornwall and this beach is situated in an area favoured by walkers, wildlife fans and boat lovers.

 

 

We hope you've remembered your walking boots, grab a picnic and make your way to St Anthony’s Head at the very tip of the Roseland Peninsula and is a ‘must visit.’

St Anthony Head guards the entrance to Falmouth Harbour and gives you fantastic views over to the Lizard Peninsula.
